Apocatastasis
In the light of a dying sun it is time to march the princess home:
tall she stands over foolish kings doomed to welter in gloam.
Using the apostate tyrant as his tool:
crowning the impostor drowning in his drool.
When the mystical rose of the east stands in fullest bloom
and a peacock wails in the garden of the saints;
When the emperor’s new clothes are revealed he shall meet his doom,
as the memory of ancient sages faints.
Now the heavenly fountains of life shall wash away the pain
and a fair wind will blow from the Island of the Blessed.
And as sister and brothers bounded now we all shall be
and the falcon’s hatchlings will leave their golden nest.
In the heart of a hateful man there’s a chamber blank and bare.
In the heart of a loving man there’s a fountain sweet and fair.

Falkenflug
Wo sind die Rosse, wo sind die Reiter?
Wo der Klang der Luren und wo ist der goldene Hort?
Wo sind sie heute, die kühnsten der Streiter?
Der Gesang des Schwertes wehte sie mit Macht hinfort.
Es tost ein schwarzer Hagelsturm,
zerfetzt die Banner auf Zinne und Turm,
der Luchs frisst die Amsel, der Geier die Lämmer, der Mensch frisst den Hirsch und den Menschen der Wurm.
Fort ist die Maid und fort ist der Knappe, die Höfe sind zerfallen, allesamt auf Sand gebaut.
Wogen bedecken einst blühende Marschen, die Freuden sind gewichen und die Wölfe heulen laut.
Der Speer hielt Ernte bei Edlem und Knecht,
hat Knochen gespalten und blutig gezecht.
Kein Tanz und kein Singen, kein goldener Becher,
kein Friede im Herzen, kein Treu und kein Recht.
Der Falke fliegt ins lichte Blau, ein Frühlingswind trägt ihn empor.

Night Sea Journey
On either side the river lie
Long fields of barley and of rye,
That clothe the world and meet the sky;
And through the field the road runs by
To many-towered Camelot.
The garden bloomed and the full moon shone and a scent of fire filled the air.
The path stretched out to the hills beyond and I rode the white-maned mare.
I crossed the bridge and I drank the wine and I solved the riddle of steel.
I drew my sword and I felled my foe and I knew what it was like to feel.
I bathed my limbs in an age-old lake and the eye of heaven saw my soul.
The shore was far and the lake was deep and I paid my dueful toll.
The serpent hissed and the eagle cried and I crossed the valley of tears.
The lion roared and morning dawned and the blessing of man quenched my fears.
Only reapers, reaping early,
In among the bearded barley
Hear a song that echoes cheerly
From the river winding clearly,
Down to tower'd Camelot.

Heimwärts zieht die Prinzessin des Wegs im leuchtenden Abendrot:
Klaftertief steht der Kaiser im Dreck, die Kleinodien starren vor Kot.
Dient der Apostat als Werkzeug höchstem Plan,
wenn er sich beschmutzet durch der Krone Wahn?
Wenn die mystische Rose des Ostens in Blüte steht
und ein Pfauenschrei im heil’gen Hain erschallt;
Wenn der Siegesruhm des Basileus im Wind verweht
sind der Sieben weise Worte längst verhallt.
Und ein milder Regen spült hinfort der Menschen Qual,
Hesperidenwinde wärmen Berg und Tal.
Wie Geschwister sind wir nunmehr unser'n Nächsten hold:
flügge Falken schert kein Nest aus rotem Gold.
Wer da hasst trägt ein Herz in der Brust das gemacht ist aus schrundigem Horn.
Wer da liebt trägt ein Herz in der Brust welches gleicht einem sprudelnden Born.

Falcon's Flight
Where are the horses, where are the riders? In the fray of battle all the heroes met their fate.
Where are the kinsmen and where are the treasures? Taken by the hands that had been lying long in wait.
Wind-blown halls in silence stand,
the fate of mortals, built on sand.
The wine-halls they crumbled to frost-covered ruins, monarchs lie lifeless and ill fares the land.
Gone is the liege lord, gone are the princes – the serpents have long withered which adorned the mighty hall.
Amber waves eat away at the coastline – the strongest rock must crumble and the proudest hero fall.
The blood-greedy spear took both warrior and slave
and black winds unsheathed the heart of the nave,
alas for the bright cup, alas for the feasting,
alas for the gold-rings the giver once gave.
The falcon flies the spring-long day with fair wind under either wing.

Nachtmeerfahrt
Das Feld entlang des Flusses breit
trägt reifes Korn zur Sommerszeit;
es schmückt den Grund, reicht hoch hinauf,
ein Weg nimmt durch das Feld den Lauf,
zum zinnenreichen Kamelot.
Der Holder glänzte im Mondenschein und die Funken flogen durch die Nacht;
Das Rösslein trabte den Weg entlang und der Eichenwald hielt stille Wacht.
Die Brücke querte den breiten Strom der da mündet in einen tiefen See,
der zeitlos und auch grundlos ist, seine Wasser lösen Gram und Weh.
Ich löste der Klinge Rätselspruch und das Auge des Himmels sah mein Herz;
Ich zog den Stahl und ich schlug den Feind und der Lohn war unser beider Schmerz.
Das Tränental barg die Natternbrut und am Himmel zog ein stolzer Aar,
Der Löwe brüllte im Morgengrauen und der Segen der Menschen wurde wahr.
Ein frohes Lied klingt in der Frühe
und versüßt der Schnitter Mühe,
Längs des Flusses kann es schallen,
und durch goldene Fluren hallen
zum zinnenreichen Kamelot.
